The Location of the Heart Touching Animation Series ‘Anohana’

Anime and manga fans must make a short trip to Chichibu, a city in Saitama prefecture, where the famous heart melting anime series, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (Japanese: あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない) . The anime was produced by A-1 Pictures and aired in Fuji TV‘s noitamina block between April and June 2011.

Jorin-ji Temple

Jorin-ji Temple is located in a quiet residential area north of Chichibu. Honda, is a standing statue of the Guanyin Buddha statue, which has been well preserve in the temple since the ancient times. In the animation, the main characters used to play here when they were children. This is also the place where they reunited and patched up their broken friendship. Why not try visiting this place and recreate the scenes in real life.

Chichibu Bridge

The Chichibu Bridge appeared several times in the main part and opening of the series. It is one of the most prominent spot in ‘Anohana’. The bridge is only a 12 minutes walk from the west of Onohara Station. If you love ‘Anohana’, you would consider on visiting the Chichibu bridge at least once and recreate the scenes in real life. Though, keep in mind that you shouldn’t stand on the railing’s of the bridge like Menma as it is dangerous.

Hitsujiyama Park

Hitsujiyama Park is a park on top of a small hill that is at the edge of Chichibu city. This is the area that was shown in the second episode of the anime when Menma stood in a field of Broccolini flowers. In reality, the southern section of the park is full of dazzling moss pink fields arranged in patterns. You can also see the city from above if you climb the stairs to the top of the hill.

Chichibu Shrine

The Chichibu Shrine is home to the gods Yagokoroomoikane no mikoto, the god of wisdom, Chichibuhiko no mikoto, the 10th generation descendent of the former, Amanenominakanonushi-no-kami, the first god and source of the universe, and the resting place of Emperor Taishō’s second son, Prince Chichibu. Unlike Jorin-ji Temple, this shrine was only seen few times in the series. However, Chichibu Shrine is the spiritual center of the city.

Chichibudaiichi Junior High

The high school where Jinta “Jintan” Yadomi and his friend Naruko “Anaru” attended is in this place. Though, in reality it’s not really a high school but a junior high. However, the design of the building is the spitting image to that of the series. For security and safety reasons, entering the campus is prohibited for outsiders. You can still enjoy the aesthetic of the building from afar.
