July 24 – 25: Tenjin Matsuri Festival

The procession is then followed by a fluvial parade on the Okawa river with about 100 boats carrying mini shrines or kabuki performers. These boats are a delight to watch as it is lit by torches and different lights. The festival ends with an extravagant fireworks display. 

August: Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival

The festival’s highlight is the fireworks which beautifully lights up the Yodo River. Spectators gather as early as 6:00 PM in the evening to witness the fireworks display. The festival is being held on the first Saturday of August. 

June 30 – July 2: Aizen Festival

The festival takes place at the beautiful Aizen Temple. Amidst the parade where young women are being in a small carriage-like float carried on the shoulders of men are different Japanese snacks and goodies being sold on the streets. The Aizen Festival signals the beginning of summer in Osaka.

Mid September: Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri Festival

Together with the beat of the drums, the shouting of the crowds as they harmoniously pull a 5 ton wooden shrine along the street of Osaka. The heavy yet beautifully ornate shrine is being paraded around the neighborhood of Kishiwada on the second day of the festival. The first day also features a parade in front of Kishiwada station.
