Chichibu is a city located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan – the westernmost part of Saitama to be precise. It attracts many visitors who wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
Unlike other parts of the prefecture, Chichibu is largely mountainous and the population is concentrated in river terraces along the Arakawa River. It is Saitama’s largest municipality in terms of surface area and shares borders with Tokyo, Yamanashi, Nagano and Gunma Prefectures. A large portion of the city belongs to Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park.
One of Chichibu attractions and a place where you can experience a legit Autumn scenery is Fall Foliage in Nagatoro Town. A tourism hot spot just two hours from Tokyo, where you can enjoy rich nature and spectacular fall foliage!
Nagatoro boasts a vast array of breathtaking mountains and sparkling rivers for visitors to enjoy as soon as they step off the train – straight from the postcard scenery especially during Autumn. In addition, the Hodosan Ropeway operating hours are extended during the festival period to provide guests with the opportunity to enjoy both day and night-time scenery, and specific areas are lit up in the evening for a full-day fall foliage experience.
Other attractions in Nagatoro includes Nagatoro River Boating which is known during summer, gliding peacefully down the Nagatoro River in traditional, wooden Japanese boats, visitors are treated to a feast of visual splendors in this beloved river rafting activity with a history that spans over 100 years.
The leisurely boat ride takes approximately 20 minutes, during which participants can take their time to fully enjoy the beautiful fall foliage spread out along the banks of both sides of the river. In the afternoon, the spectacle of gorgeous fall foliage reflected on the river’s surface provides a totally different way to enjoy the stunning scenery. The picturesque, calm sections of the river are complemented perfectly by the contrasting river rapids, which offer fast-paced thrills as the boatmen skillfully navigate between the rocks.
